This will not be the typical St. Patrick's Day-themed design post.
There will be no reference to the following: claddagh rings, shamrocks, leprechauns, potatoes, cartoon policemen, Aran sweaters, alcoholism, anything green.
I want to talk about examples of cool, modern Irish design.
Mourne Textiles
Shaggy Dog handloomed wool cushions
This loopy weave was shown in an early coat from founder Gerd Hay-Edie.
I'm particularly drawn to this textile design house because they're located in the area around the Mourne Mountains where my grandfather William was from.
Stable of Ireland
The Colin scarf in striped linen
Minimal, chic scarves in all dimensions and weights, in Irish linen and wool.
Maria Dorai Raj jewelry
The Glacier ring
I love this designer's perspective, with pieces that are weaponlike and look as though they're cast directly from a rocky crag.

I owe many many thanks to Sinead Burke, a meteor of human rights advocacy and universal design, champion of Irish design and designers, spark of internet joy.
I'm trying something new with my publishing schedule: if you were a subscriber, you could have seen this article earlier this week.
